Gorontalo – Cooperation between Gorontalo State University and Japan continues, with various programs from Japan to Gorontalo. One of them is the utilization of sorghum plants.

The potential of Sorghum has been put into practice by achieving maximum results. The people of Gorontalo utilize it by making sorghum a staple substitute for rice and corn.

In addition, the leaves to the stems of sorghum itself can be used for animal feed, so that the benefits of sorghum have been felt directly by the local community.

On Saturday, February 26, the Director of the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) for International Cooperation and Services (KSLI), Dr. rer. nat. Mohamad Jahja, invited the local community, and students, as well as teams from Agricultural Technology Research Center (BPTP) and Research and Development of Gorontalo Province, to work together on the proper management and processing of sorghum.

“Many people do not know how to manage these sorghum plants, so through the Social Program Implementation Study of Co-creation of Sustainable Regional Innovation for Reducing Poverty Problems in Gorontalo Province (SRIREP), processing and training of Sorghum and its by-products is conducted in collaboration with the State University of Gorontalo and RIHN (Research Institute for humanity nature). We work together with all stakeholders KSLI UNG, UNG researchers, the government of Gorontalo Province and Ehime Prefecture, RIHN researchers, farmers, and Gorontalo people who are interested in developing sorghum plants and their by-products,” he said. This research is an excellent and competitive University of Gorontalo practice activity and an excellent program of Dr. Eduart Wolock, the rector of the University of Gorontalo and Master of Engineering.
