NHK World highlights the SRIREP Project

NHK World highlights the SRIREP Project and how the gold rush causes the health of people and the environment in Indonesia. People from rural regions are compelled by economic hardship to participate in small-scale gold mining, also known as ASGM, and the use of mercury as a crucial component in the extraction of gold has disastrous effects on the region’s people and ecology. The highlight also includes the project leader’s emphasis on other means of support – alternative livelihood.

It was aired on NHK’s Live on September 1st, 2022. The highlight can be viewed on the following link.
