The 6th Japan-ASEAN Medical Seminar on Human Health Impact of Heavy Metals “Minamata Disease” was held as the online Zoom Webinar for the lecture “Minamata Disease – an Epidemiological Perspective” by Professor Takashi Yorifuji, Department of Epidemiology, Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Okayama University on Tuesday, June 29th, 2021, from 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm Japan Standard Time (JST).
The 5th Japan-ASEAN Medical Seminar entitled “Mercury Exposure and Health Problems: Using Illegal Skin-Lightening Cosmetic Products” was held as an online Zoom Webinar for the lecture entitled “Mercury Exposure from Illegal Skin-Lightening Cosmetic Products in ASEAN Countries and Related Health Problems” by Dr. Hasriwiani Habo Abbas, Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI) on 29th May 2021.
The 4th Japan-ASEAN Medical Seminar entitled “United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) and Minamata Convention on Mercury” will be carried out as an online Zoom Webinar for the lecture entitled “Minamata Disease to Minamata Convention” by Professor Motoyuki Suzuki, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Japan Association for the United Nations Environment Program.

In February 2020, SRIREP Project conducted the first preliminary clinical survey of the ASGM community of Myanmar in collaboration with Environmental Conservation Department (ECD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation (Myanmar) in order to evaluate the health condition of the community especially the Hg intoxication.
